Imagine a world where wars continued to rage and no one tried to end them.

Imagine a world where people were free to hurt those who were weak or disadvantaged—and no one came to anyone’s defense.

Imagine a world where millions starved and no one gave them a bite to eat.

Imagine a world where the rich and the powerful got whatever they wanted and no one demanded that they care about somebody else.

Imagine a world where injustice was so common that no one dared to hope that wrongs could be made right.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

This is why Jesus tells us—shockingly—that he came to bring division. There is a divide between those who love and those who hate, those who are kind and those who are cruel, those who are selfless and those who are selfish, those who are Christian and those who merely claim to be. We are called to choose a side, to choose the kind of world in which we and future generations wish to live.

see Luke 12:49-53
